If you downloaded the MesenCE nightly build for the Star Fox 1 FX3 conversion previously, as of July 20, 2026, please redownload the nightly build of MesenCE.
The new builds have support for battery backed saving. This requires a new board type in the header to indicate battery support.
As a result, This Star Fox 2 conversion will not boot in the older MesenCE nightly. The newer versions also fix a bug where the FX3 speed mode was disabled after resetting the emulator.

This patch converts Star Fox 2 use the Super FX 3 chip. Enjoy Star Fox 2with a nice 4x speed boost!
The Super FX 3 runs about 4x faster than the 21.4mhz GSU-1/GSU-2!
No, the game speed is not untied from the framerate, nor has the framerate cap been raised.
The game is now able to hit the maximum 20fps far more often than before!
Currently, only MesenCE supports the Super FX 3. This functionality is not in a stable release as of writing, only in development builds/nightlies. See [here](https://github.com/nesdev-org/MesenCE#development-builds) for links to MesenCE development builds.
