Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition v1.0a is the definitive version made by Linkuei. With his permission, Rael G.C. made some graphical improvements: Improved Kano, Rayden, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Sonya at the character selection screen in order to get closer to the arcade. Improved Sub-Zero fatality to show the front size of the heads. Reduce the “greenness” of the Goro’s Lair new parallax. Fixed Johnny Cage skin colors. Improved mini avatar for Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Kano. Reworked Rayden stance animation and victory standing, restoring the “blue” eyes. Reworked Scorpion/Sub-Zero head on victory standing. Reworked Sub-Zero sprites on […]

hi Rael
great works man !!
Just a curiosity

will be this version 2.2, the last one ? or not ?
it´s Just a curiosity

Thanks

This is awesome! Every year we're getting little improvements to the game thanks to skilled modders like Rael G.C. Lots of care has gone into this.

This new v2.2 Mar 2025 edition is great! I myself have patched it with BillyTimeGames! 6 button controller fix so it works with the wireless 8-bit DO controllers.

Indeed, this was missing. I just added a Changelog section. But to answer you directly:

Improvements over V2.1:
- Fixed Sonya broken leg animation while knocked waiting for fatality
- Removed Kano red spots from all sprites
- Removed Rayden yellow spots from all sprites
- Improved Rayden ending 1 screen (improved lightning, blue eyes and face lining)
- Small improvement to Liu Kang ending 2 screen (the blurred faces at the background)
- Improved Liu Kang head rotation on J. Cage fatality (issue introduced in V1.7)
- Improved J. Cage head rotation on J. Cage fatality (issue introduced in V1.7)

It is great to see someone concerned with this stuff and fixing it. Thank you!

BTW, Goros idle and defending anims have inconsistent frame offsets.

Hey, great work! I was wondering if two things would be possible, even if they would deviate from the original game:
1) Make Liu Kang's fatality end with a decapitation like Johnny Cage's
2) Replace Johnny's head sprite with Jean Claude VanDamme
Just some ideas and wishes 😅
Anyway, excellent work, thoroughly enjoying it!!!

This is definitely my top pick for the console version of the first Mortal Kombat. Actually like playing this one more than the original arcade version. The only version that tops it would be the Mugen version, Mortal Kombat Komplete, which includes all the games. You can run, pull off combos, and even fight as Reptile. The music on the Genesis for the first two MK games is fantastic. Now, there are a few technical glitches that might not have been mentioned before. The pit stage has some lag, unlike the original, and not sure if it's due to the moving clouds or something else, but the lag is pretty noticeable. At the courtyard stage, sometimes when you jump up and down or if an enemy receives an uppercut and falls back down (camera jumps), you can see a quick screen tear in the backdrop (a black line) than disappears, and there's another stage (can't recall) where a white line appears and disappears. It's not game-breaking, but it's definitely noticeable. Lastly, the only wish for this game is an option in the settings to let Reptile be playable and replace the Mortal Kombat logo on the character select screen (like in Mugen), of course balanced out so he doesn't move as fast as the Reptile you fight in single-player. Aside from these minor nitpicks, this is truly one of the best ways to enjoy the first Mortal Kombat.

@Jerry R Yes, I'm trying to improve the performance and fix the glitches. Thank you for reporting them!
